Eagle Project

This week I met with a young man who is working to become and Eagle Scout.  This soon to be 10th grader is interested in pursuing an Eagle Project, which I have learned is no small undertaking.

A quality Eagle project takes time.  The Scout must do all pre-planning, design, any fundraising, and go through a multi-step review process with the end user of his work, property owners, his scout troop and the scouting district. Most Scouts plan 6-9 months for an Eagle Project, taking it from a concept to a fully fledged plan, getting it reviewed (which often involves changes), reviewed again until it is fully ready, and then to implementation.

Everything about scouting is handled by volunteers, and the Scouts working on these projects are young developing future leaders of the community. There is much to be learned for the Scout – from contingency issues, safety issues, and planning down to the nitty-gritty, volunteer training and recruitment, etc.

As a property manager, I am also acutely aware of the fact that the landscaping beatification project we have in mind here at Glendale Place will need to be conceptualized, researched, fully funded and carefully planned before anything actually happens.  I am glad to work closely with the team of people that are forming to get something accomplished here at Glendale Place.  It is exciting to be part of a process that will contribute to our community and to help develop the leadership skills of a young man who aspires to be an Eagle Scout.

Right now, “our guy” is investing his time over the summer months helping out at resident camps and taking on high adventure with a group of young men who are canoeing in Canada.  We are just beginning, but I know this process with benefit everyone.
